September 2021 Construction Updates

September 3, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
Underground electrical work is being done. Tie-ins to plaza and pavers are being placed. Snowmelt mainframe and trench drain work is starting. Work continues on the retaining wall.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
Cement pouring will begin this week. Placing of steel is complete. Escalator delivery is planned over the next few weeks, and installation will take another three to five weeks.

 

September 23, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
Cabin guide inserts will be installed this week and gondola cabins will begin to be hung on the line. Pavers to be installed next week. Load testing will be scheduled over the next few weeks.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
Escalators being delivered this week. They will be installed over the next several weeks. Stairs running parallel to escalators and canopy cover to follow. Concrete “lid” over lower plaza level to be installed mid-October. Pavers to follow.

August 2021 Construction Updates

August 9, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
The operator cabin has been installed. Lower terminal foundations have been poured and work on the retaining wall foundation is ongoing.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
The foundations for the escalator have been poured and the escalators will be set in place over the next few weeks. A new storm drain and snowmelt system is being installed in the plaza.

 

August 23, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
North rock retaining wall is being installed. Electrical work is being completed by Yampa Valley Electric Association. Work is being done on the Burgess Creek Bridge.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
There will be a crane on site this week to assist in erecting the steel at the new resort entrance. Final concrete will be poured and the escalators will be set this week.

July 2021 Construction Updates

July 6, 2021

Grading work in the future Greenhorn Ranch learning area located near the Bashor Bowl will begin Monday, July 12. This will cause the closure of the Disc Golf Course for the remainder of the season and impact bike trails over the next few weeks. Stay up to date on the latest impacts on our website or Steamboat app.

Gondola Terminal Move

The canopy for the new gondola terminal will be installed this week along with pouring of foundations and footings for the site walls. Next week retaining walls will begin being installed.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
Materials from demolition continue to be sorted for recycling and hauled away. The demolition of the bridge near the Sheraton that will make way for the Gold Walk entrance continues.

 

July 13, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
The walls started being built for the operator cabin this week. Foundations have been poured for a snowmaking machinery vault. Steel will be involved for an elevator that will service the lower terminal.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
Foundations for the future escalator are starting to be built. The demo work on the stage is complete and the demo of the stage is complete. Utility work for the under-plaza will begin this week.

 

July 27, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
The splicing of the haul rope was completed last week. Work continues on the operator cabin for the gondola. Structural steel will be put in place.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
Demo of the Gold Walk topping slab is nearly complete. An end slab on the bridge near the Sheraton is being removed to make way for the future escalator.

June 2021 Construction Updates

June 15, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
The underground mechanical systems for the lower gondola terminal have begun installation. Steel erection is slated to begin next week.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
Demolition has been completed for both the Gondola and SnowSports buildings. Clean up, including recycling and sorting of materials, will be ongoing for the remainder of June. Hauling of debris will continue through the month of June from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The Goldwalk/Sheraton bridge demolition is underway and will connect to the future escalator that will be installed later this summer.

 

June 29, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
Lower terminal foundation walls are being installed. New gondola towers for the lower terminal are being installed. Underground mechanical systems for the lower terminal are beginning to be installed as well as the mechanics for an elevator in the lower terminal.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
Clean up from demolition is nearly complete and includes recycling sorting and hauling of materials. The Goldwalk/Sheraton bridge that will connect the transit center with Gondola Square is being demolished and rebuilt, this work will continue through the end of July.

May 2021 Construction Updates

May 10, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
Gondola cars have been removed from the line and all equipment has been removed from the lower terminal. Grading work is being done in the area where the magic carpets were formerly. The gondola cable has been cut and tied it back at Tower 3. After completing this initial prep work, Doppelmayr at a later date in the project when they will begin placing footings for the new lower terminal.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
Fencing has been installed at the base around the construction perimeter. There is no resort access at this time and all access to the base is currently through Torian Plum Plaza via Ski Time Square Drive. Wayfinding routes during our summer operations will be forthcoming. Demolition of the Gondola and Ski School buildings are awaiting approval by the City of Steamboat Springs Planning Commission later this month. Once approved and all permits have been received, demolition will begin.

 

May 17, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
Grading work continues for the gondola relocation. Once the grading work is complete, the first few towers will be removed.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
The area continues to be prepped for demolition of the gondola and ski school buildings. The City of Steamboat Springs Planning Commission approved the demo permit on May 13 but the permit is not yet in hand to begin this next phase.

 

May 24, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
Construction on the foundation for the new terminal started this week.

Base Area Improvements and Resort Entrance
Demolition of the Ski School building started on Tuesday, May 25. The Gondola building demolition is expected to begin next week. Hauling of debris will be taking place over the next several weeks.

 

May 31, 2021

Gondola Terminal Move
Last week towers 1 and 2 were removed and the first concrete pours for the foundations began.

Demolition has been completed on the ski school building and has started on the gondola building. Cleanup and debris hauling will be ongoing for the remainder of June from 7am to 7pm. Demolition on the Gold Walk has begun as well as construction on a bridge to a future escalator that will be installed.

April 2021 Construction Updates

 

April 2, 2021

The Gondola and Ski School/Competition Services buildings have been vacated and a moving company will be working to remove packed items and furniture from them this week. The construction site prep has begun and fencing has been erected. Doppelmayr is working on preparing the gondola terminal for deconstruction.

 

April 9, 2021

As the winter season comes to an end, we set our sights on groundbreaking for the base area redevelopment and on-mountain improvement projects. During the week of April 12-14, our resort crews will be working to close down the resort after our official closing day on April 11. We will be plowing mountain access roads and the base area for staging of construction fencing and equipment. There will be an increased presence of heavy machinery on the mountain in a variety of locations at various times throughout the day.
