While Steamboat has been shaped by its rich past, and we are now shaping the future with Full Steam Ahead. We’ve invested over $200 million on and around our mountain, as we have enhanced the Steamboat experience for everyone who visits us. This unprecedented venture has made us one of the premier ski destinations in the world for decades to come. This is an ambitious undertaking that is setting the stage for our ambitious future.
Now with 650 new acres in Mahogany Ridge, an entirely new base area with The Range Food & Drink Hall, Skeeters Ice Rink, a new stage and easier access, as well as an industry-leading learning facility at Greenhorn Ranch, Full Steam Ahead phase one is complete. With a bright future ahead for Steamboat, however, the resort is just getting started.
The new Wild Blue Gondola is the longest and fastest 10-person gondola in North America. Now fully open, this state-of-the-art gondola will feed skiers/riders through a newly created mid-station adjacent to Bashor bowl with the final destination at the top of Sunshine Peak.
At a total length of 3.16 miles, the new gondola has increased the out of base capacity from 6,000 people per hour to 10,000 people per hour, getting skiers from bottom to top in 13 minutes.
Leading the industry in teaching new skiers and snowboarders the fundamentals of sliding on snow, Greenhorn Ranch, is now the dedicated learning center for SnowSports School students. This new learning facility has a slope graded for beginners at 0% to 15% angle, progressive Terrain-Based Learning developed with Snow Operating as well as dedicated chairlift.
The lower leg of the Wild Blue Gondola has an unloading option at Greenhorn Ranch making access to beginner terrain easy for those new to skiing and riding.
650 additional of expert/advanced acreage makes Steamboat the 2nd largest ski resort in Colorado (from the 5th largest currently). This adventurous, gladed terrain is now open and serviced from the new Mahogany Express chairlift.
Steamboat has long been known for our pristine intermediate terrain, and this new expansion has put us on the map for the best skiers and snowboarders in the world.
In order to provide an improved experience in Greenhorn Ranch and on Sunshine Peak, we need to make sure the surface is consistently covered and can open early. That’s where our new automated, Low-E snowmaking technology comes in – ensuring our most popular terrain is available by peak holiday visitation.
First Tracks fans will rejoice with earlier season coverage and new skiers will embrace the top tier grooming and snowmaking efforts just for them.
